“The Thrill of I’ll Say She Is,” a centennial celebration with Noah Diamond and friends, was presented at Marxfest in New York City on May 19, 2024, the 100th anniversary of the original Broadway opening.

Of course, there’s no video of the original I’ll Say She Is. The Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers are equally brilliant but much less mysterious; we know them from their film versions.

Although the Marx Brothers never made a film adaptation of I’ll Say She Is, they did film its opening scene as part of the 1931 Paramount promotional anthology The House That Shadows Built. Written by Herman Timberg, the scene first appeared in the Brothers’ vaudeville tabloid On the Mezzanine.

A beautifully restored version of the scene is available on the Too Many Kisses blu-ray from the Film Preservation Society.
